Wellington - The New Zealand stock market followed the week's international roller coaster trend Thursday, closing down 4.8 per cent.

The benchmark NZX 50 index, which fell 1.5 per cent on Wednesday after posting its biggest ever one-day jump of nearly 6 per cent a day earlier, ended down 139.95 points at 2,764.68.

The decline was in line with falls across the Asia-Pacific region after Wall Street's overnight plummet on fears that world government's bail-out plans for the financial industry would not avert recession. (dpa)
