Cavs rally to beat Heat and improve to 16-0 at home
Los Angeles - LeBron James got the best of fellow-superstar Dwyane Wade, and the Cleveland Cavaliers kept their house in perfect order.
James tossed in 33 points - four more than Wade - and the Cavaliers moved to 16-0 at home, with a 93-86 come-from behind victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday night.
"Any good or great team tries to take care of home court first and then tries to play well on the road," said James, whose 27.3 average is second to Wade's league-best 28.9.
James had high praise for his Olympic teammate Wade, who helped Team USA win the gold medal at last summer's Beijing Games.
"We're the ultimate competitors. Every time we go out there we try to lead our team to victory," James said. "Dwyane is an unbelievable player, and he brings out the best in me and hopefully I do the same to him.
"It was great performances by the both of us, and I was able to get a couple more stops and a couple more scores to lead my team."
Mo Williams netted 20 points before fouling out, and Ben Wallace grabbed a season-high tying 14 rebounds as Cleveland (26-4) outscored its guests 35-19 in the decisive fourth frame to earn its 25th win in the last 27 games.
"Picking it up defensively, making hustle plays and getting hustle points; that's what wins basketball games," Williams said. "We picked up our energy; we picked up our rotations and things like that in the fourth quarter. On top of that, we made shots and made plays."
Trailing by eight at the 8:08 mark, the Cavaliers turned up their defense, and went on a game-turning 18-2 run. The burst was highlighted by three-pointers from Williams, Delonte West and a ferocious one-handed breakaway hammer dunk by James en route to an 85-77 lead with 2:55 remaining.
The Heat drew to within 86-83 after Mario Chalmers made both free throws with just over a minute remaining. However James and West both made two free throws, extending to 90-83 with 34 ticks to go.
Daequan Cook drilled a three-pointer to pull Miami within four, and the Heat had chances to get closer after forcing a turnover in the back court. But Cook and Wade misfired from behind the arc in the final seconds to come up short.
Besides Wade, Udonis Haslem had 15 points, while Cook added 12 for Miami (16-13) which had its four-game winning streak stopped.
"They were the home team," said Wade, who had just five fourth-quarter points. "They protected the home court, and we were just trying to come in and steal one."
