Netflix services used by one million Xbox 360 users
It was informed by online DVD Company Netflix on Thursday that past three months have seen one million Microsoft Xbox 360 video game console users activating Netflix's movie streaming, since the two companies formed a partnership.
It was confirmed by Netflix that nearly 1.5 billion minutes of movies were watched by the Xbox LIVE community, who also viewed the TV episodes via its Watch Instantly video service. However, the company did not confirm as to how many subscribers it has actually gained from the partnership.
It should be mentioned here that Netflix, otherwise well known for renting DVDs by mail, is the only company providing subscription-based streaming video service. Its rivals such as Amazon. com, Apple, and Blockbuster compete with a la carte, pay-per-view rentals.
It was confirmed by Netflix last month that the growth in its Web video streaming service propelled the stronger-than-expected quarterly results and its growth was being energized by streaming.
The Xbox LIVE Gold members are offered the Netflix application, after they pay $50 a year to Microsoft for various different applications. These include the access to immediately view content from Netflix on a TV through the Xbox 360 system if they are also members of Netflix service, priced at around $9 per month to include Watch Instantly unlimited streaming.
