Chennai, Mar 3 : Protesting Tamil Nadu lawyers observed day-long hunger strike outside the High Court premises here on Tuesday.

The lawyers have been demanding immediate action against police officials who baton charged lawyers in the Madras High Court premises on February 19.

One of the strikers in the morning claimed that they would not change their mind until sufficient action was taken against the police.

"We are on ongoing hunger strike. So far no officer has been suspended, not any action taken against anyone. There is not even a single FIR has been registered against them. This is pathetic," said C. Kanakaraj, a member of Lawyers' Association Madras High Court.

The police-lawyers' clash took place last month after two lawyers were arrested for throwing rotten eggs on Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy.

The lawyers also manhandled Swami, who enjoys Z-category security. (ANI)
