Security along India-Bangladesh border strengthenedFulbari (West Bengal), Apr 7 : Authorities in Siliguri have taken all possible measures to foil any untoward incident in the state in the wake of the upcoming general elections.

The measure has been taken following the heightened concerns of the authorities fearing possible militant attacks during the election.

When asked about security preparedness, S. Ramaswamy, Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Bengal frontier said all measures were in place.

"Not just (instructions) of the Defence Ministry, keeping in mind the general security scenario, after terrorist attack in South Asia and parts of India, not only border security force, also the local police are conscious of their responsibility. As per requirement, all necessary measures have been taken," said Ramaswamy.

Security personnel have been on alert at the Fulbari, border outpost between India and Bangladesh.

India is having porous boarder of over two thousand kilometers with Bangladesh of which North Bengal shares over thousand kilometers.

Indian authorities are stepping up security for political leaders, fearing possible militant attacks during elections, Home Ministry officials and police said.

Intelligence agencies have warned that Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul Gandhi and the Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Krishna Advani, could be targets. (ANI)
