Ronaldo: Winning World Cup is a dream but unrealistic
Hamburg - Cristiano Ronaldo names the World Cup title a dream but realizes that his Portugal team doesn't have the class to win the top prize in football.
"It is a dream. The greatest feeling for a footballer is to become world champion. Portugal have a good team, but not a fantastic one. You can only win this title with a fantastic performance," Ronaldo told German Bild daily in an interview published on Friday.
Portugal came second in their qualifying group and will only make it to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa if they beat Bosnia- Herzegovina in a play-off series next month. They came fourth at the 2006 World Cup.
The 2008 World Footballer Ronaldo also told Bild that he felt no added pressure because of the world record transfer fee of around 90 million euros Real Madrid paid Manchester United for his summer move.
Looking at possible further big-name hirings next year such as Frenchman Franck Ribery, Ronaldo said that the current team must deliver first.
With Ronaldo currently sidelined injured, Real are under fire after losing 3-2 at home in the Champions League against AC Milan last week and 4-0 in the Spanish Cup at third division part-timers Alcorcon this week.
"Real needs good matches and victories with the players who are here now. We should talk about these players. I don't know what will happen next year," he told Bild. (dpa)
