Tesla to roll out firmware update to increase the performance of its EVs

During the course of Tesla’s recent conference call for reporting its latest business figures, CEO Elon Musk said that a firmware update will be rolled out by the company in the coming weeks, to increase the performance of the Model S, Model X and Model 3 electric vehicles (EVs).

According to Musk, the upcoming firmware update will increase the performance of Tesla EVs by up to 5%.

Musk also added that the firmware update will also increase the range of Tesla EVs, as well as enhance the supercharger performance. In addition, single-pedal driving and ride comfort will also undergo an improvement as a result of the firmware update.

Though it is not yet clear as to which Tesla EV will benefit the most from the firmware update, the company’s technology chief Drew Baglino has said that the update will lead to about 3% improvement for Model S and Model X, and 5% for all Model 3 variants.

Confirming that the firmware update will be released by Tesla “in a few weeks,” Musk said: “We’re also expecting there’s going to be an over-the-air improvement that will improve the power of the Model S, X, and 3.” Musk also added: “It should be in the order of 5% power improvement due to improved firmware.”
