India To Open More Embassies

New Delhi: To promote New Delhi's tactical, economical and political interests, India is all set to open Embassies in four countries including Iceland. Govt. also plans to setup a Consulate General in Guangzhou in China.

P R Dasmunsi, Information and Broadcasting Minister told that in a conference of Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has given authoritative approval for the opening of Missions and posts in Reykjavik (Iceland), Guatemala City (Guatemala), Niamey (Niger) and Bamako (Mali).

He said that the Cabinet also sanctioned formation of a Consulate General and four Ambassadors in the Grade of Joint Secretaries.

“This decision will help safeguard and promote India's strategic, economic and political interests in the respective regions,” Mr. Dasmunsi added.

Mr. Dasmunsi also said that the opening of the Missions and formation of the posts were expected to be commenced in the current fiscal.
