Tokyo - The Tokyo stock market was higher in early trading Wednesday after a sharp rise overnight on Wall Street.

Within 15 minutes of the start of trading, the benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 147.56 points, or 1.31 per cent, to 11,407.42.

The broader-based TOPIX index was up 18.01 points, or 1.65 per cent, to 1,105.42. (dpa)
