NYC Police Official kills Man while Trying to Stop Elderly Woman’s assault

Authorities stated that a New York City police officer was trying to stop a man from assaulting an elderly woman and while doing this, he shot and killed the man. Before dying, the man attacked the officer with a knife on his neck.

Officer Filippo Gugliara, 24, was taken to hospital, but now is in stable condition. Bratton said, “He faced quite clearly a life-threatening situation with this individual. But for his intercession, the assault on this 78-year-old woman - we don't know what would have happened”.

The incident took place at around 2.15 pm near a subway station in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn. The man was involved in a dispute that came out on the street. Police said that when the woman tried to intervene in the situation, the suspect turned and pushed an elderly woman.

The officer was patrolling an elevated subway station and hearing the noise, he came down the street to help the woman. The man pulled a knife and attacked the officer. In response, the officer fired two rounds hitting the man in the torso.

The knife was found at the scene. Doctors said that the police officer needed a few stitches. They also affirmed that the wound could have become more serious, but the shoulder strap of the officer's vest apparently deflected the knife. The victim has also been treated for minor injuries and she had no previous connection with the suspect.
