Osteoarthritis hoped to be detected early with the new tests
According to the researchers in the U.S, a new test that can promise to diagnose osteoarthritis in its early stages could soon be available and thus will help them to fight wit the disease more efficiently. The treatment is most beneficial if osteoarthritis is detected early.
The concentration of recognized marker of this ailment known as glycosaminogycan (GAG) could easily be detected through this new method which uses a modified form of MRI imaging.
This new test helps the doctors to map the GAG in the joint. Thus, it could be known by the doctors as to where the levels are low and osteoarthritis is beginning.
According to the lead researcher, Dr Alexej Jerschow, from New York University, “A method for early diagnosis could open a window of opportunity for preventing or reducing permanent damage.”
The 236th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Philadelphia saw the presentation of these latest findings this week.
