Park in East Central Fresno Creating Problems for Neighbors
A park in East Central Fresno is creating problems for nearby neighbors. The nearby neighbors said that the park that was built less than six months ago is also causing major headaches.
About half a year ago, the park was a dirt lot, and people around the park were happy to see it built in their community. But now, some neighbors are having issues with the park. Parks Director Manuel Mollinedo, said that Martin Ray Reilly Park is a jewel in a part of the city that requires more attention.
"It's one of the nicer splash pads that we have in our park system, and this summer once we fire it up it's just going to really draw even more children out there", said Mollinedo.
Some neighbors along the east side of the lot have different story. One woman, who didn't want to be identified, said that they put the boom box so loud, she felt that her house was shaking. Varoujan Kalinian, who lives right across from the park's east entrance, said that after an argument with park goers last week, someone killed then burned his cat on a park grill.
Kalinian said that it didn't smell like meat or like beef or pork or anything like that. It smelled very bad like burning hair. After that he contacted police for help and people who visit the park often said that there's no way a crime that awful might have occurred on a weekend night.
Transient Alan Lulay said if that would have occurred in the park then somebody would've said something as there were many people in the park that night. In spite of issues by nearby neighbors, the parks department said that many people are taking benefit of the new community park every weekend.
