Party at a state university in Western Maryland ends with one student dead

Police has said that a party at a state university in Western Maryland ended with one student dead, one wounded and one charged with first-degree murder.

The Washington Post has reported that the alleged killer, Tyrone Hall, 21, of Glen Burnie, Md., was arrested at his off-campus apartment Sunday near the Frostburg State University campus. In addition to the murder charge, he is charged with two count of assault.

The shootings stemmed from an incident at a party at which Hall allegedly assaulted a woman, setting off a fight that was broken up, investigators have said. Some time later, a group from the party, all of them believed to be unarmed, went to Hall's home across the street from the campus.

Allegany County police said in a statement on Sunday, "There was another confrontation, and then the suspect produced a 12-gauge shotgun. The suspect fired two rounds, striking both of the victims in the abdominal area. The suspect then fled back into his residence and remained there until law enforcement arrived and he was detained."

Brandon Carroll, 20, of Waldorf in Southern Maryland was killed. Relatives said Ellis Hartridge Jr. of Washington was in stable condition after surgery. Carroll and Hartridge played on the school's basketball team. (With Inputs from Agencies)
