Lahore, Mar. 30 : Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has refuted charges that the judges were reinstated under pressure. Rather, he said they were restored at the right time keeping in view public aspirations.
"The PPP always upheld the democratic norms and strove for strengthening Pakistan and promoting politics of reconciliation," The News quoted Zardari, as saying.
Islamabad, Mar. 30 : Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has formally lifted Governor's Rule in Punjab by signing a summary on the advice of Prime Minister Yousuf Raja Gilani.
After a late night meeting with Gilani, Zardari signed the summary to lift governor's rule, The Dawn reports.
A presidential spokesman told media that Zardari and Gilani "discussed political situation in the light of president's address to the joint session of Parliament on Saturday."
London, Mar. 29 : Hamid Karzai and Asif Ali Zardari may have welcomed US President Barack Obama''s new strategy on Afghanistan and Pakistan (now called AfPak in Washington), but experts have warned that both the South Asian countries will have to pay a fair price in exchange of the US aid.
According to Afghan President Karzai, the proposal for increased civil and military aid was "better than they were expecting."
Lahore, Mar 29 : PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif today welcomed President Asif Ali Zardar’s address to the joint sitting of the Parliament, saying that it will strengthen democracy in Pakistan.
“We welcome the reconciliation policy of President Zardari, as the harmony among the political parties would strengthen democracy,” Sharif said.
He said if the Charter of Democracy (CoD) is implemented, then extending hands of friendship towards Zardari was not an issue.
