London, November 20 : Claudia Castillo, the first woman to have a transplant of an organ grown from stem cells, has described hearing the word ‘successful’ as the ‘best moment’ of her life.
The 30-year-old, who had suffered from tuberculosis five years ago, had experienced a worsen condition after having conventional treatment which led her to excessive coughing, leaving her unable to walk for long.
The mum of two, who was not able to utter more than few words prior to the pioneering surgery, revealed it was heart-wrecking not being able to do ‘normal things mothers did for their children’.
