French Government concerned about Tibet, says Dalai Lama

Dharamshala, Dec 18 : Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has said that the French Government is concerned about the plight of Tibet.

The Dalai Lama told the State Legislators of Himachal Pradesh that during his recent visit abroad he had met important members of the European Unions including President Sarkozy of France. He said that they had expressed "serious concerns about Tibet".

Last month, the Tibetan spiritual leader met the European parliamentarians and also French President Nicolas Sarkozy, sharing his concerns over the situation in Tibet.

Dalai Lama praised India for its developed culture on spreading non-violence and peace focusing India to set them as an example to the world.

Taiwan foreign minister chided for comments on Dalai Lama's visit Taipei  - Taiwan's Foreign Minister Francisco Ou has come under criticism by the opposition party for saying that the Dalai Lama's overseas visits are politically motivated, a newspaper reported Sunday.

Ou made the remark Saturday while giving a speech on Taiwan's foreign policies at the Yishou University in Kaohsiung County, south Taiwan, according to the Liberty Times.

During the question and answer period, a student asked Ou's opinion on the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, visiting Taiwan.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao told journalists at his regular press conference that Beijing had contacted the Polish government over the meeting and said Warsaw should respect China's fundamental interests and not create impediments to Chinese-Polish relations.

Dalai LamaDharamsala, Dec 10 : Tibetans living-in-exile in Dharamsala today celebrated 19th anniversary of the Dalai Lama receiving the Nobel peace prize in 1989.

Hundreds of Tibetan monks, nuns and students including some foreigners assembled in the main Buddhist premises at McLeodganj to celebrate the occasion.

Prime Minister of Tibetan government-in-exile Samdong Rimpoche also attended the celebrations.

Thubten Samphel, spokesperson of Tibetan government-in-exile said that conferment of the Nobel peace prize on Dalai Lama showed the international support for the cause of Tibetan freedom.
