London, Apr 3 : World Champion Lewis Hamilton and his McLaren team could be expelled from Formula One after being found guilty of lying and cheating.

Sanctions include expulsion from races, the championship or fines such as the one imposed in September 2007 when McLaren Mercedes were found guilty in an industrial espionage case.

Hamilton and his team were yesterday stripped of the six points they scored for his third place in Australia on Sunday after race stewards reopened their inquiry into an incident near the end of the race.

London, Apr 2 : Lewis Hamilton and his team McLaren have been excluded from classification in the Australian grand prix for providing evidence deliberately misleading to the stewards at the hearing on March 29 and the British driver has been stripped of his third place.

The FIA ruled that Hamilton provided misleading information on the circumstances, which led to Toyota's Jarno Trulli being demoted from his third place finish.

Sepang, Malaysia - Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton was on Thursday stripped of his third place finish from last Sunday's Australian Grand Prix, race stewards in Sepang said.

The McLaren-Mercedes driver originally finished fourth, but was promoted to third after race stewards penalized Toyota's Jarno Trulli for overtaking during a safety car phase.

Hamburg - Lewis Hamilton is playing down the chances of replicating the third-place finish he achieved in Sunday's season- opening Formula One race in Australia in this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang.

"Firstly, we shouldnt get carried away by our podium in Australia. Yes, we had a fantastic race but were all aware that our car isnt capable of repeating that sort of performance on sheer pace alone," said the defending world champion in a statement on the McLaren-Mercedes team website.

Melbourne - Jarno Trulli recieved a 25-second penalty for overtaking during a safety car phase at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday which elevated world champion Lewis Hamilton to third place.

The Toyota driver Trulli dropped from third to 12th place in the classification due to the penalty. Hamilton moved on to the podium behind the Brawn GP duo of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, up from 18th on the starting grid.
