Mahatma Gandhi’s school, a victim of UP Govt’s apathy

Mahatma GandhiLucknow, Oct 2 : As the nation is celebrating Gandhi Jayanti, to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a secondary school set up by him in Lucknow is in shambles due to neglect by authorities.

Mahatma Gandhi had established the secondary school in Chinhat Nagar in 1920 as there was no school for the education of children for miles and miles.

As the years passed by government''s priority towards its maintenance decreased considerably. The government regularly releases grants for the maintenance of the school, but it does not go towards the upkeep of the school. The result is that it is in ruins.

Mahatma GandhiBhitiharva Village (Bihar), Sep. 24 : As the nation is getting ready to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 139th birth anniversary on October 2, a historical Ashram founded by him in Bihar, as the centre from where he started his first Satyagraha, taking the cause of indigo workers, is drifting into oblivion.

Mahatma Gandhi established this Ashram at Bhitiharva in Bihar’s Champaran region taking up the cause of indigo workers. Among those who joined him were people like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, who later became the first President of India.

Gandhi GiriNew Delhi, Sept. 12 : A replica of a mobile toilet that was used by Mahatma Gandhi will now be placed again at a prominent spot in the Sabarmati ashram-turned-museum in Ahmedabad.

According to a report in The Telegraph, the toilet was removed from the ashram over two decades ago after it was deemed inappropriate for the surroundings.

The museum authorities believed it "spoilt" the ashram''''s ambience.

Gandhi was known for his obsessive attention to personal health and hygiene and had a rigorous daily routine of ablutions of which bowel movements were a vital part.
