"The Rail Budget will prove to bring in speed, development to Indian Railways, security and service to citizens.  For the first time there is holistic railway budget of modern India.  Railway cannot be run on an adhoc basis.  This Rail Budget will prove that Railways plays an important role in the Nation's development," Modi said.

Narendra ModiSrinagar: Making a strong pitch for self- reliance in defence production, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said this is needed to make the country completely secure from any threat and said he also has accorded highest priority to the modernisation of defence forces as strong security was necessary for an atmosphere of peace, amity and harmony in the country.

In his brief speech at the 'Sanik Samelan' here, the Prime Minister spoke about encouraging defence production in the country and said it was important for securing the borders of the country, official sources said here.

PM meets Omar Abdullah in Srinagar

Earlier today, Modi flagged off a new train to Katra and congratulated the people of Jammu and Kashmir for helping the project see the light of day, and said the new facility will not only be beneficial to Kashmiris, but also to all who want to visit the state.

Assuring people that there will be no shortage or obstacles in the development of Jammu, Modi said: "The train is not just to commute, it gives birth to development."

She said India is a very important country for Facebook, considering the high number of active Facebook users in India.

An official statement said the Prime Minister discussed with Ms. Sandberg, ways through which a platform such as Facebook can be used for governance and better interaction between the people and governments.

According to reports, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will carry a French Earth observation satellite along with four other satellites from Singapore, Canada and Germany on June 30 from the Sriharikota spaceport in Andhra Pradesh. The countdown for the launch began on Saturday, and is progressing normally.

While assuring his full support to the state government, Modi said it would be the endeavour of his government to promote an investment friendly environment for the benefit of the state, a statement from the CMO said.

Tuki submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting various development issues and sought necessary support from the Centre, the statement said.

More than a dozen killed in blast at GAIL India gas pipeline

GAILNew Delhi: More than a dozen people were killed on Friday after a blast at a gas pipeline operated by state-owned energy company GAIL (India) Ltd in Andhra Pradesh, the company said.

"As per the information received from the GAIL official at the site there are 13-14 casualties," a GAIL spokeswoman said. The victims were local residents and a fire at the scene had been brought under control.

The 18-inch diameter pipeline supplies gas to a power plant operated by Lanco Infratech Ltd. .

India, Bhutan to place more emphasis on education, capacity building

In a joint statement released on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay, the former announced announced the doubling of the Nehru-Wangchuck Scholarship to Rs. 20 million per year.

The India Government also agreed to provide grant assistance for the establishment of the digital section/ E-library in the National Library of Bhutan and in all 20 districts of Bhutan.

Prime Minister Modi enroute to Thimphu from Paro

Narendra-ModiParo, (Bhutan), June 15 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left Paro Airport for Bhutan's capital Thimphu, which is at a distance of at least 52 kilometers.

The Prime Minister is on a two-day official visit to Bhutan.

Earlier today, the Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft carrying Modi landed at Paro Airport, where Modi was received by Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, members of his cabinet and senior Bhutanese and Indian Embassy officials.

Modi's election expenditure in Vadodara stood at Rs 50 lakh

Narendra ModiVadodara: Prime Minister Narendra Modi incurred a total poll expenditure of a little over Rs 50 lakh in Vadodara, one of the two Lok Sabha seats from where he contested and won.

Modi's campaign-related expenses stood at Rs 50,03,598, according to the accounts submitted to the Election Commission office here yesterday by Vadodara Mayor Bharat Shah who was in-charge of the BJP leader's poll expenditure for Vadodara.

According to the details submitted with EC, a major part of the expenses (Rs 25.80 lakh) went towards organising two meetings during Modi's visit to the city - first on April 9 for filing his nomination paper and on May 16

PM Modi to witness INS Vikramaditya's air power demonstration

Narendra ModiNew Delhi, June 14 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a visit to INS Vikramaditya to witness the air power demonstration by the Indian aircraft carrier off the Goa coast in the Arabian Sea today.

Modi will also be witnessing the high-speed maneuver by the Navy's Western Fleet ships, which include aircraft carrier INS Viraat, Delhi-class destroyers and Talwar-class frigates.

The 44,500-tonne warship was acquired from Russia, and was commissioned in the Navy by Defence Minister AK Antony in November last year.

Yadav was accompanied by senior officials of his administration, including state chief secretary Alok Ranjan, televison reports said.
