Rahul Gandhi arrives in Ranchi for poll campaigningRanchi, Dec 4 : Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi arrived here today to campaign for the remaining three phases of the Jharkhand assembly polls.

Gandhi was received by Union Food Processing Industries Minister Subodh Kant Sahay, Congress in-charge of Jharkhand K Kesavrao and other senior leaders at the Birsa Munda Airport here.

He is scheduled to address rallies in Bermo, Latehar, Ghaghra in Bishunpur, and Simdega.

Earlier, he had visited the State before the first phase of polling.

Rajnath Singh arrived here Thursday night. He is to campaign at four places that go to polls in the third phase of assembly elections Dec 8. A BJP leader said the party head will address public meetings at Jamua, Dhanwar, Bagodar and Bermo assembly constituencies.

He is scheduled to campaign in the constituencies that go to the polls Dec 8 in the third of the state's five-phase assembly elections.

"Rahul Gandhi will campaign at four places on Friday," Congress' Jharkhand unit general secretary Shailesh Sinha told IANS.

He said Rahul will campaign in Bermo of Bokaro district, Latehar, Visunpur of Gumla district and Simdega.

The Qualis was the one in which Priyanka had driven her brother around his parliamentary constituency Friday.

Though the rear portion of the Qualis was damaged, no one was injured in the accident, which took place in Amethi's Gauriganj town in Sultanpur district, about 150 km from Lucknow.

In a letter to the U P Government, the Union Home Ministry also expressed its unhappiness over the security provided to Rahul Gandhi by the state government.

The letter said Rahul’s security had been compromised on several occasions by the U P Government.

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee sources said the Gandhis' visit was for "non political" reasons, mainly to interact with self-help groups. Amethi, in Sultanpur district, is about 150 km from Lucknow.

While Rahul will leave for New Delhi Friday evening, Priyanka is expected to depart from Amethi Nov 21, party officials said.(IANS)

"Please don't consider me as the future prime minister. Nobody can predict the future," he said during an interaction with students of Loyola College in Vijayawada.

"Anybody can become the prime minister," Gandhi said when some students referred to him as the future prime minister.

Gandhi's two-day visit began with an Adivasi Yuva Sammelan (AYS) in Sahebganj. He then proceeded to Dumka district, around 500 km from here. Both Sahebganj and Dumka are tribal-majority districts.

On Thursday, he will visit the Maoist strongholds of Chatra and Daltonganj. He will also visit Jamshedpur.

The visit comes against the backdrop of the killing of a Jharkhand Special Branch police inspector Francis Induwar in the state recently.
