Somnath criticizes MPs for disrupting Question Hour

Somnath ChatterjeeNew Delhi, Feb 19 : Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Thursday criticized Members of Parliament (MPs) for their behaviour, saying they did not deserve even one paisa of public money.

"I think Parliament should be adjourned sine die. Public money should not be spent on useless allowances for you. You don't deserve one paise of public money," Chatterjee said as several MPs stormed the well of Lok Sabha raising a spate of issues and disrupted Question Hour.

Uttar PradeshNew Delhi, Feb 11 : Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, on Wednesday, expressed great regret over the ruckus during the joint session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

"Wherever it is, I do not want to mention any assembly, wherever it happens, it is extremely painful, extremely worrisome. It does not help strengthening of democracy. On the other hand, it weakens our democratic structure," Chatterjee told reporters.

Chatterjee said that there is a defined line for every institution and all should remain within that as per the Constitution.

Somnath ChatterjeeNew Delhi, Jan. 7 : Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Wednesday justified the live coverage of the proceedings of the Lok Sabha for public knowledge.

The Speaker said people had the right to know how their representatives act and behave inside the House.

"I think people have a right to know how their representatives act, behave and work inside the House," said Somnath Chatterjee while stating that a section of the people think "different type of behaviour" of the MPs should not be shown on Lok Sabha TV.
