Plucking Hairs May Stimulate hair growth

According to the Daily Mail, a cure for baldness has been found. But the discovery was made in mice, not humans.

The study looked at hair regeneration in mice. Results of the study showed that hair regeneration relied on the density at which hairs were removed. The researchers explained how hairs appeared to have a ‘sense and response’ process that works around a threshold.

When plucking during hair removal was below this threshold and no biological response was there to repair and regrow the hair, the mice remained bald.

But when the plucking threshold was crossed, the plucked hairs regrew and frequently more hairs regrew as compared to their original. According to the researchers, the effect is known as quorum sensing. But it’s not yet known that the same thing will take place in people.

It is too early to claim that plucking hairs can cure baldness. Researchers from the University of Southern California in teamwork with colleagues based in Taiwan, China and Scotland conducted the study. The study was published in the peer-reviewed journal Cell.

This study was an animal study utilizing mice to explore the biology of hair regeneration. As per experts, the study included plucking hair from the backs of mice. If the experiments in mice appear useful then the researchers finally attempt it in people.

By plucking hairs from the backs of mice, the researchers studied the biological reaction. Different skin cell behavior was analyzed by the researchers. It was found by the researchers, that plucking was able to stimulate hairs to grow back. Sometimes hairs grow back more than they were originally but only after a sure threshold.
