PM constitutes a panel to review economic situation
Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, has constituted a panel under his chairmanship, to review the global financial condition and its impact on the economy of the country. Mr. Singh had assured the corporate world in a recent meeting that government would monitor financial matters on daily basis.
The other members of committee are Finance Minister, P Chidambaram, Industry and Commerce Minister, Kamal Nath, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Montek Singh Ahluwalia and RBI Governor D Subbarao.
Dr. Singh also approved a Committee of top Officials under the chairmanship of Finance Secretary, Arun Ramanathan. The other members of committee are commerce secretary, G K Pillai; secretary of department of industrial production, Ajay Shankar; and secretary of Planning Commission, Subash Pani.
It would meet regularly to discuss issues raised by corporate leaders and report to the government about the concerns of the industry. The Joint Secretary (Banking) and officials of Finance Ministry would remain in touch with the industry to receive their opinions and government would take more financial decision after reviewing the opinions form corporate houses.
