Rajnath Singh arrested on his way to Greater Noida

Uttar Pradesh BJP president Rajnath SinghGreater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 14: Uttar Pradesh BJP president Rajnath Singh was arrested on Thursday by the UP Police, while he tried to enter Greater Noida, where four persons were killed when police opened fire on farmers demanding enhanced compensation for their acquired land.

The administration did not allow the BJP chief as it feared that his visit could create trouble said the District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar.

Four persons were killed and 50 were injured, including 15 policemen, following clashes in an incident of police firing after the farmer’s agitation turned violent near the Greater Noida Development Authority office on Wednesday.

The farmers were demanding an enhanced compensation for their land acquired in 2003 and 2005 for building housing colonies by the State Government on the lines of those acquired in 2008.

Security personnel resorted to lathicharge and lobbed teargas shells to control mob and police opened fire as violence continued. (ANI)
