Real Madrid to register youngster Szalai for Champions League
Madrid - Real Madrid are planning to register Hungarian youngster Adam Szalai for the knockout stages of the Champions League, according to the digital version of Marca on Thursday afternoon.
According to AS, the 21 year-old striker will be registered with UEFA before Saturday's deadline.
Szalai has still to make his first team debut, but has scored 13 goals this season for third division nursery side Castilla.
Real will also register Lassana Diarra but not fellow new signing Klaas Jan Huntelaar, since UEFA regulations only permit clubs to register for the knockout stage one newcomer who has played in UEFA competitions in the same season.
Diarra and Huntelaar have both played in the UEFA Cup this season, for Portsmouth and Ajax respectively.
According to AS and other Spanish newspapers, Real coach has asked the club to register Diarra instead of Huntelaar, who has so far failed to impress at the Estadio Bernabeu.
Real - who have not reached the quarter-finals since 2004 - will face Premier League giants Liverpool in the round of 16. (dpa)
