Coalition forces kill Afghan civilians, guards, say police

Afghan policeKabul  - Two Afghan guards and three civilians, all working for a local government official, were killed by foreign soldiers, an Afghan police official said Sunday - but US-led coalition said those killed were militants.

A unit of coalition soldiers landed by helicopter in Emamsahib district of northern Kunduz province Sunday morning and stormed the district mayor's resident, Abdul Rahman Aqtaash, deputy provincial police chief said.

"The forces killed two mayor's bodyguards, two of his servants and his cook," Aqtaash said, adding that forces also seized two of mayor's relatives and took them to an unknown location.

Drug dealer caught with top Afghan official protection letter

AfghanistanKabul, Mar 22 : A specially trained unit of Afghanistan Police conducted a nearly perfect ambush of a drug dealer on the road between Kabul and the eastern city of Jalalabad, but were surprised to find a signed letter of protection from their boss.

Officers surrounded Sayyed Jan’s vehicle so quickly that his two bodyguards never had a chance to fire their weapons, and he was caught moving at least 183 kilograms of pure heroin, Globe and Mail reported.

But the counter narcotics Police of Afghanistan realized they had a problem when they discovered that Jan’s powerful friends included their own boss.

Sinise funds reprint of Seabiscuits for Iraqi kids

Gary Sinise Forrest Gump star Gary Sinise funded a reprint of the book Seabiscuit in Arabic language after learning that the kids in Baghdad had become big fans of author Laura Hillenbrand tale of a heroic horse after hearing the news that a U. S. colonel had attempted to translate segments for the kids, who all loved it a lot.

Sinise tells WENN, "Laura wanted to get it translated to Arabic because one of the colonels was reading the book and the Iraqi kids started asking him about it, so he contacted her and asked for Arabic translations of the book.

"We made 15,000 copies of Seabiscuit in Arabic and sent it over there."

Four Canadian troops killed in Afghanistan

Four Canadian troops killed in AfghanistanOttawa  - Two roadside bombs killed four Canadian soldiers and one Afghan interpreter, the Ministry of National Defence said.

Eight soldiers were injured in the blasts that occurred in Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Friday, the ministry said.

The first happened early Friday in the vicinity of a dismounted patrol in Zhari District, west of Kandahar city, killing two soldiers and a local interpreter and injuring five people.

US to rely on former warlords to stabilise Afghanistan

Taliban leader says US troops in Afghanistan “absolute target”

Pakistan mapLahore, Mar. 20 : Taliban leader Maulvi Nazir has said that the US troops stationed in Afghanistan were “absolutely” the group’s target.

“We have readied suicide bombers for them. They cannot escape us,” Maulvi Nazir told ABC News in an interview, sitting in front of the mountains that separate Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Maulvi Nazir is one of the three leaders, who head the Council of the Mujahedeen Union set up in February 2009, the Daily Times reports.
