Austrian post to outsource 20 per cent of post offices Vienna - Austria's postal service announced Tuesday it would outsource around 20 per cent of its post offices this year to prepare the company for the liberalization of European Union letter services in 2011.

Oesterreichische Post AG, as the service is officially known, said it would close 300 of its 1,500 post offices, while enlisting 450 businesses such as grocery stores and pharmacies to start offering postal services.

Austria ends contract with football coach Brueckner

Austria coach Karel BruecknerVienna  - The tenure of Austria coach Karel Brueckner was cut short Monday, when the Austrian football association (OeFB) announced it had severed its contract with the seasoned Czech trainer after a string of losses.

The 69-year-old coach had taken over the team last July after Austria's unsuccessful showing at the Euro 2008 championships.

Led by Brueckner, Austria managed only one win against France, defeating it 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier, while drawing two matches and losing four others. Brueckner's record since last summer includes a 1-1 draw against the Faroe Islands.

Dieter AlthausVienna  - German state premier Dieter Althaus was charged with manslaughter by negligence after being involved in a fatal skiing accident in Austria, a prosecutor in the Austrian town of Leoben said Monday.

According to a press release by prosecutor Walter Ploebst, Althaus had submitted written testimony in which he "assumed responsibility for the death of Beata Christandl," who died after colliding with Althaus on a slope in the province of Styria on New Years Day.
