Queensland Govt. officials ''failed to do checks on `Dr. Death’

Brisbane, Feb. 11 : Queensland Government officers failed to check a vital piece of information that may have prevented Indian-born Doctor Jayant Patel from being employed in Queensland, a court has been told.

Dr. Patel a. k. a. Dr. Death is facing 14 charges including three of manslaughter relating to his time as director of surgery at the Bundaberg Base Hospital between 2003 and
2005.

Ainslie McMullen was working as a low-level officer with the Health Practitioners Registration Board in early 2003 when Patel''s application came across her desk.

The Brisbane Magistrates Court today was told that on Dr Patel''s application was a note stating a public order had been made against the 58-year-old doctor in the US.

Nydam said the staffing situation when Patel joined the hospital was "chaotic" and he agreed with prosecutor Byrne that Patel could have been the only surgeon on call "day after day".

Brisbane (Australia), Feb. 9 : Indian-trained surgeon Dr. Jayant Patel carried out a series of badly considered and poorly performed surgeries that cost the lives of three patients, a magistrate's court here was told on Monday.

The 58-year-old Patel is facing 14 charges, including three counts of manslaughter, two of grievous bodily harm, an alternative charge of a negligent act causing harm, and eight counts of fraud from his time as director of surgery at Bundaberg Base Hospital in Queensland between 2003 and 2005, reports news. com. au

The woman, who was taking her time with her purchase, was buying a birthday present for a friend.

The distraught woman was told if she refused the search in full view of other customers, police would be called.
