Emirates suspends Airbus A380 superjumbo flights

A380Dubai, Paris- UAE carrier Emirates said Tuesday it had suspended for a few days its flights using the A380 superjumbo manufactured by Airbus after "minor" electrical faults were discovered in the aircraft.

Once the problem was cleared up, the company planned to operate two instead of three flights a week on the Dubai-New York route, a spokesman said from Emirates' headquarters in Dubai.

Some of the passengers booked on the A380 flights would be carried on Boeing 777 aircraft, the spokesman said.

Burj Dubai becomes the tallest man-made structure on earth

Dubai BurjDubai - Burj Dubai, or Dubai tower, is now the world's tallest man-made structure after reaching a new record height of 688 metres, a statement by its developer Emaar Properties company read on Monday.

The tower surpasses the KVLY-TV mast in the US state of North Dakota, which has held the record for the world's tallest supported structure since 1963, has a height of
628.8 metres.

At over 160 storeys, the tower is taller than the Taipei 101 building (508 metres) in Taiwan and the CN Tower (553.33 metres) in Toronto, Canada.

India keen on permanent handicrafts pavilion in UAE

India’s Textiles Minister, Shankersinh VaghelaDubai, Aug. 30 : India’s Textiles Minister, Shankersinh Vaghela, has said that his country is keen on setting up a permanent pavilion in the United Arab Emirates to display its wide variety of handicrafts to the people of the Gulf region and western tourists.

Addressing a seminar on ''Brand Image Promotion of Indian Handicrafts'', Vaghela was quoted by Gulf News as saying that a draft plan has been drawn up to popularise the country''s exquisite handmade wares with the aid of the regional media vehicle through print and television advertisements.

Haneef says his case left his family “in darkness”Dubai, Aug. 30 : Mohamad Haneef, the Bangalore-based doctor who was labeled a terrorist by the Australian Federal Police last July, today said that his family was left completely traumatized and “in darkness” by the incident.

With the AFP now admitting that there was no terror-related evidence against Haneef, he has expressed both relief and anger at the news, saying the yearlong investigation had left his entire family "in darkness" and his reputation destroyed.
