ADB approves loan worth $800 million to Himachal PradeshThe Asian Development Bank has finally sanctioned an 800-million-dollar loan to help the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh to expand hydro power generation with a series of projects in the western Himalayas. 

With the help of the eight-year loan package, Himachal Pradesh plans to utilize five major rivers to build hydropower plants, which will provide a combined capacity of 808 megawatts.
 

Dalai Lama returns to Dharamsala

Dalai Lama returns to DharamsalaDharamsala, Oct 21 : Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, arrived here on Monday days after undergoing successful surgery to remove gallstones at a Delhi hospital.

Hundreds of Tibetans greeted their leader as he passed roads leading out of the airport. Floats were put up and Tibetans showered flowers on him.

Young and old, all waited eagerly to catch a glimpse of the Dalai Lama.

"We the Tibetans in Himachal Pradesh, all came to welcome our leader here. He has been in Delhi for few days," said Nodup Wangdu, a Tibetan exile.

Himachal villagers organize Buffalo fights

shimlaBhont (Shimla), Oct. 20 : Thousands of people converged on the weekend at Bhont Village near Shimla for the traditional buffalo-fight fair. The rural folk of Himachal organize it as an annual ritual.

The fair showcased the traditional religious beliefs prevailing in rural areas. Over 25 buffalo from the different villages were brought for the buffalo fight here

"This fair holds historical importance. We have been celebrating this fair here for over 90 years. We believe that this fair helps to protect the people from bad omens," said Baldev Thakur, the village head of Bhont Village.

IPTV Services To Be Unveiled By BSNL In HP By Next Month

Himachal Pradesh is geared up for the launch of BSNL’s IPTV services, IPTV Services To Be Unveiled By BSNL In HP By Next Month which will be unveiled in Shimla next month. BSNL is the largest telephone operator in Himachal Pradesh. Other than IPTV services that are to be introduced on broadband, BSNL will also launch 3G services on mobile phones. 

Initially, these services would be provided in 256 centres statewide but soon these centres would extend to 400.

According to the sources, Shimla will become one of the first few cities in India to have BSNL's IPTV service. The company is presently giving final touches to its software system for launching.
