Jharkhand CM-elect Raghubar Das meets Governor, stakes claim to form govt.

Raghubar DasRanchi, Dec 26 : Jharkhand Chief Minister-elect Raghubar Das, who would be the first non-tribal to take over the top post in the state, on Friday met Governor Syed Ahmed to formally stake claim to form the government.

The oath-taking ceremony has been fixed on December 28 at 11 am. The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, among other dignitaries.

"A delegation of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) met Governor Syed Ahmed and requested him for the swearing-in on December 28, which was accepted by him...," Das told mediapersons after his meeting with the Governor.

Amit ShahBarhi (Jharkhand), Dec 1 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Monday criticised the Congress, stating that the grand old party had little to show in terms of achievement in nearly six decades of rule.

"[The Congress] has ruled for the last sixty years and it has disappointed the nation. Tell me what has been done... in the last sixty years? Why there is no electricity and no colleges?" Shah asked.

The Naranpura MLA also took a jibe at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, saying that he has not been able to notice the changes under the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government because of his 'Italian glasses'.

Sonia Gandhi criticises BJP for favouring capitalists over masses

Sonia GandhiJamshedpur (Jharkhand), Nov 30 : Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for favouring capitalists over the masses.

Speaking at an election rally here on Saturday she said the BJP wants to privatise the coal mines because the party wants to benefit certain chosen capitalists.

"They want to privatise the coal mines which were nationalised by the Congress party, which will benefit some of their preferred capitalists and as a result of this you will face huge losses," said Gandhi.

Gandhi also said the BJP made tall promises but never fulfilled any of them.

Addressing an election rally here, Modi said he regretted attacking Manmohan Singh as Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were to blame for the party's poor governance.

"Sometimes I used strong words against Manmohan Singh," he said.

"After some books were released (recently), I felt I should not have targeted Manmohan Singh as the mother and son were responsible for everything.

Black magician ruling India, says Modi

Narendra-ModiRanchi, April 10 : India has been ruled by a "black magician" for the past 10 years, BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi said Thursday.

Quoting Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who said the Bharatiya Janata Party has brought in a magician who claims to change everything overnight, Modi said: "The central government has been run by a black magician for the last 10 years."

"Employment opportunities vanished, farmers' plight increased and armymen beheaded," he said at a rally in the steel city of Jamshedpur Thursday.

11 percent voting in Jharkhand

11 percent voting in JharkhandRanchi, April 10 - Around 11 percent voting has taken place in the first three hours in Jharkhand's four Lok Sabha constituencies where polling is underway.

Voting began in Koderma, Lohardaga, Palamu and Chatra constituencies at 7 a. m. and will end at 4 p. m.

Koderma witnessed highest polling with 13.5 percent of the electorate voting, and Chatra around 8.5 percenttill 10 a. m.

"As many as 1,193 video cameras are recording the polling. Webcasting will be done at 271 booths and 1,189 still cameras have also been pressed into service," an election official told IANS.

"Will the country chose a prime minister a person who will be a big liar?" she said at Ramgarh in Hazaribagh district.

Madhu Koda walks out of jail after 44 months

Madhu-KodaRanchi, July 31 : Jharkhand's former chief minister Madhu Koda walked out from jail Wednesday on bail in corruption cases after 44 months and said he would prove his innocence.

He told reporters: "I will prove my innocence."

Jharkhand High Court Tuesday granted bail to Koda in the Rajiv Gandhi rural electrification scam. This was the fifth case in which he was granted bail.

Hemant Soren to be sworn-in Jharkhand chief minister Saturday

"Hemant Soren has desired to take oath around 10 a. m. Saturday. Governor (Syed Ahmad) has agreed to the request. It will be announced officially once the president approves lifting of the president's rule in the state," a source in the Raj Bhavan told IANS.

Hemant Soren Tuesday staked claim to forming the government, handing over to the governor letters of support of 43 legislators in the 82-member house.

Lalu seeks transfer of fodder case

laluRanchi, June 24 : RJD chief Lalu Prasad has moved the Jharkhand High Court seeking transfer of a fodder scam case whose verdict has been fixed for July 15.

Lalu Prasad sought the transfer on the ground that Special CBI judge Pravas Kumar Singh, who is hearing the case, was related to a Janata Dal-United leader.

Lalu Prasad's lawyer also informed the CBI court not to deliver the judgment till the Jharkhand High Court gives a ruling on a petition from the former Bihar chief minister.

Koda surrenders, sent to 14 days judicial custody

Madhu-KodaRanchi, May 10 : Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda surrendered in a Ranchi court Friday and was sent to 14 days' judicial custody. He was on three weeks provisional bail that ended a day before.

"I was granted provisional bail to look after my ailing mother. My mother needs my support. She is unwell and hospitalised," Koda told reporters before surrendering.

Koda has been in jail since November 2009 on several graft cases.

Madhu-KodaRanchi, April 18 : Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda was Thursday released on a three-week provisional bail after spending about 40 months in jail for his involvement in various graft cases.

Koda was granted three weeks' provisional bail by the Supreme Court Tuesday.

After his release from the Birsa Munda central jail here, the tainted politician went straight to a hospital to meet his ailing mother.

"My mother is everything for me. I pray to god that she recovers," Koda told reporters after meeting his mother.

Hardcore Maoist arrested from Jharkhand’s Latehar district Latehar, Mar 4 : The Jharkhand Police has arrested a hardcore Maoist from the Kendwahi village of Latehar district of the state.

A team of policemen conducted raid on Sunday (March 03) in the Kendwahi village after they came to know that the Maoists were camping in the village and were plotting to create trouble in the area.

When the police team arrived, the militants tried to flee but one of them, Prem Oraon, was caught while the two others managed to escape.
