Nepalese court reinstates eight generals forced into retirement Kathmandu  - Nepal's Maoist-led government on Tuesday suffered a serious setback after the Nepalese Supreme Court reinstated eight army generals who had been forced into retirement.

The eight brigadier generals were forced into retirement after the defence ministry led by a former Maoist rebel leader Ram Bahadur Thapa ignored the recommendation of the army headquarters to extend their terms by another three years.

Bomb blast at government office kills one in Nepal Kathmandu  - One person was killed and another injured after a bomb exploded at a government office in south-western Nepal, police said Monday.

The bomb went off at the Transport Management Office in the town of Nepalgunj, about 350 kilometres south-west of the Nepalese capital Kathmandu.

Police said the blast occurred inside the building as people assembled.

"One person died on the spot and another was injured in the blast," Police Inspector Pradip Kumar said. "Both victims were not government employees or security personnel."

Eight students injured in southern Nepal bomb blasts Kathmandu  - At least eight people were injured Thursday when two bombs exploded outside a college in southern Nepal, police said.

The bombs went off as students gathered outside Thakur Ram College in the town of Birgunj, about 90 kilometres south of Kathmandu.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the blasts, police said.

"The bombs exploded just as students prepared to vote to chose their representatives in college elections," the Birgunj police office said. "Eight students received shrapnel wounds."

Police arrest alleged French paedophile in NepalKathmandu  - Nepal police arrested a Frenchman wanted internationally on paedophile charges, media reports said Sunday.

Jean Jacques Haye, 60, was arrested in the north-eastern outskirts of Kathmandu on a tip from an organization working for children, the Himalayan Times newspaper quoted police as saying.

French authorities were seeking Haye on charges of sexually abusing of children, and an Interpol warrant was issued.
