Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 11 : Emirates Group, comprising Emirates airline and dnata, plans to hire over 11,000 new staff in the coming year across its business in line with its projected growth across six continents.

This would increase its staff size by six percent by March 2016. Approximately half of the new recruits will comprise Dubai-based cabin crew for Emirates airline. As the airline gears up to receive over 20 new aircraft this year, it is also actively recruiting talent in areas such as flight operations, engineering, airport services and corporate functions.

Kochi - BCCI's chief curator Taposh Chatterjii on Sunday inspected the pitch at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, venue of the first India-West Indies One-day International on October 8, and hoped it would have something for both batsmen and bowlers.

"Basically, the one-day pitch is bat dominating one. But something should be there for bowlers also and we will try to balance everything," he told reporters after inspecting the pitch.

Meanwhile, ticket counters for the ODI opened at the stadium. The counters will operate from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm till Tuesday. On the match day, tickets would be available only at the Palarivattom branch of Federal bank.

This landmark surgery was successfully carried out at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) here.

This highly complex surgery was done on 35-year-old civil engineer S. Syed Yunus Shahi, who hails from Palakkad.

Syed's family is thankful to the family of a 38-year-old donor, who was declared brain dead.

Union Bank targeting 9-10 % deposit growth

Union BankKochi: Union Bank of India is targeting 9-10 percent growth in deposits and 11-12 percent in its advances over last year, a top official said on Saturday.

"The bank's deposits are expected to grow by 9-10 percent and advances by 11-12 percent this fiscal," Chairman and Managing Director, Arun Tiwari, told reporters here.

The bank has a total branch strength of 3900 pan India, and will be adding 200 more branches this year of which 15 would be in Kerala.

He said 3000 employees were recruited this year and were undergoing training.

Indian scientist generates power from jumbo urine

Gireeshan, who explored the formula of generating power in Kayamkulam in southern Kerela, said on Friday (August 15) that the urine of one elephant can produce enough electricity to serve a single household for four to five days.

Gireeshan, who did his post-graduation in electronics, is working as a scientist at Bharat University in Chennai. He discovered that by using microbial fuel cell technology (MFCT), power can be generated from urine of elephant.

South Indian Bank Q1 Net up 10.28% at Rs 126 crore

South-Indian-BankKochi: Kerala-headquartered South Indian Bank has recorded the highest first quarter profit of Rs 126.65 crore profit in the first quarter ended June 30, registering a 10.28 percent growth on a year-on-year basis.

Announcing the first quarter results here, V A Joseph, Managing Director and CEO, said the bank's strategy of focusing on core deposits has yielded excellent results as the core deposits and CASA deposits registered impressive growth of 21.05 percent and 14.42 percent, respectively.

Total business increased by Rs 6,058 crore from Rs 75,123 crore to Rs 81,181 crore, registering a growth of 8.06 percent.

Mustafa, suspended from the party for his May 28 remarks, told reporters here that he had not called Gandhi a 'Joker', but only said he was 'acting like a joker' and "there is nothing wrong in saying so."

His remarks (in the backdrop of Congress' debacle in Lok Sabha polls) had triggered a debate in the party with several others also airing their views against Gandhi, Mustafa said.

KFC registers 50 percent growth in loan disbursement

Kerala-Financial-CorporationThiruvananthapuram, April 3 : State-owned Kerala Financial Corporation (KFC) registered a record growth in critical operational areas like sanction, disbursement and recovery for the 2013-14 financial year.

The year-end figures show that KFC has sanctioned Rs. 989.48 crore as loans to MSME (micro-small-medium enterprises) sectors of the state with a growth of 49 percent over the previous fiscal.

The loan disbursed stood at Rs. 754.73 crore during the fiscal ended 2013-14.

The total recovery during the period stood at Rs. 568.61 crore.
