Left Front finalises list of Rajya Sabha nominees from Bengal

Rajya Sabha & CPI(M)Kolkata, Mar 13 : After nearly a month-long stalemate, finally the CPI (M)-led ruling Left Front in West Bengal on Thursday arrived to a seat sharing formula for five Rajya Sabha seats for the March 26 elections.

The issue was settled after the Forward Bloc climbed down from its stand and gave up one of the two RS seats held by the party to accommodate another Front partner CPI.

Left parties unable to reach on a consensus on Rajya Sabha seats

Rajya SabhaKolkata, March 6 : The meeting of the Left Parties held here today to select names for five Rajya Sabha seats was inconclusive as the Forward Bloc refused to give up one of the seats held by it to Communist Party of India (CPI).

After the conclusion of the meeting, Ashok Ghosh, the Forward Block State Secretary said: “My party would not give up the seat of sitting Rajya Sabha member Barun Mukherjee, whose term ends in 2012. ”

At present the CPI does not have a representation in the Rajya Sabha and it has demanded for a "sure" seat for its all India General Secretary Debabrata Biswas.

Central Police Forces to remain in Nandigram till Panchayat Polls

Buddhadeb BhattacharjeeKolkata, March 06: West Bengal Home Secretary P R Roy asked the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to remain at Nandigram until the West Bengal Panchayat elections which are scheduled to be held in May.

The CRPF personnel were deployed at Nandigram initially for three months on November 12, 2007.

Of the five companies (about 500 personnel) sent by the Centre, three remain besides a company of the Indian Reserve Battalion.
