Melbourne, Sept. 11 : The first open prison in Australia, which has been built according to human rights principles, has been officially opened in Canberra.

According to news. com. au, the 131 million Australian dollar Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) is an open campus style prison that can house up to 300 male and female inmates.

It will take in remand and sentenced prisoners with low to high security classifications. It has no bars on the windows.

Razor-wire fencing has also been discarded and prisoners will be issued with swipe cards so they can leave their rooms, but not the facility, when they please.

Melbourne, Sept 10 : Elisabeth Fritzl, who was kept prisoner by her father Josef Fritzl for 24 years, has spoken for the first time of her horrifying cellar ordeal.

The 42-year-old bore Josef seven kids while being imprisoned in an underground cellar in Austria.

Elisabeth, who was finally freed in April, has told a judge investigating the case that she was raped up to three times a week by her father and if she tried to stop him, the children suffered.

Melbourne, Sept 9: The biggest multilingual free-content encyclopaedia on the Internet, Wikipedia has come under fire for allowing pornographic images and videos in its articles.

In fact, some of the site's own editors have confessed that the objected content is ‘dressed-up porn’.

Using Wikipedia, instead of dictionaries, for looking up dirty words can expose children to images and videos of masturbation, "hardcore" sex and orgies, according to child protection campaigners.

Melbourne, Sept 7 : In a bid to support children dealing with the breakdown of their parents'' relationship, Australian government has decided to sanction a funding of
17 million dollars for the next three years.

The money will be used to expand and/or create 18 separate services to support children displaced and emotionally wounded by their parents'' divorce, said Attorney-General Robert McClelland.

Adding on to the proposed ones, there will be other services that are already part of the Supporting Children after Separation Program.

More services will be added depending upon the advice to the government and funding applications.

Melbourne, Sept 7 : Aquarian and Cancerian drivers are more likely to crash their car, according to a new data.

The report, released by AAMI, suggests that although Aquarians and Cancerians are protective, cautious and intuitive, but when it comes to driving, their performances fall flat.

“Among their more positive traits, Aquarians and Cancerians are said to be protective, cautious and intuitive,” The Daily Telegraph quoted AAMI Corporate Affairs Manager Mike Sopinski, as saying.

“However, their moody, unpredictable, and touchy side may explain why Cancerians and Aquarians are more likely than the average driver to lodge a claim for crash-related car damage,” he added.

Melbourne, Sept 4 : Australian police has warned people not to be duped by Internet romance scams.

The warning came after a 45-year-old man lost 20,000 dollars to someone he met online, while a 47-year-old woman was left waiting at an airport.

Queensland State Police Minister Judy Spence said that the cops are investigating the online romance scams in which people had been ripped off thousands of dollars.
