Mumbai, Nov. 27: The gunmen who killed over 80 people in Mumbai on Wednesday night are said to have ordered hotel guests: “Put your hand up if you’re British or American.”

According to The Sun, frightened hostages were marched off to undisclosed locations within the hotel, their fate unclear. Reports said they were up to 40 British and other foreigners.

The Trident and Taj Mahal Palace hotels were among at least seven locations attacked simultaneously by wild-eyed terrorists carrying machine guns and grenades.

18 flights of stairs at gunpoint.

New Delhi - Elite commandos prepared to storm the Trident hotel in India's financial hub of Mumbai Thursday as police said several guests were still on the premises.

The Trident along with the iconic Taj hotel were among the targets of heavily armed gunmen who carried out coordinated attacks on at least 10 sites in Mumbai beginning late Wednesday, killing 101 people and injuring 287, an official at Mumbai's police control room said.

The official said six foreigners were among the dead but they had not yet been identified.

Sydney/Mumbai, Nov. 27 : Six members of the New South Wales (NSW) Department of State and Regional Development remain unaccounted for in Mumbai, where terrorists struck late on Wednesday, killing over a hundred people and injuring over 200.

The Daily Telegraph quoted NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Nick Kaldas as saying that the situation regarding the held up Australians "remains fluid" but was sure that half of the delegation of 13 that arrived in Mumbai on Sunday was safe.

"There are about half a dozen we have not been able to get in touch with," he said.

The Acting Commissioner said it was difficult to say whether the ones unaccounted for were safe.

Around 80 people, including a foreign tourist and four top police officers, were killed and more than 250 wounded as terrorists struck in yet another series of planned and synchronised gun battles flared in Mumbai's financial district late Wednesday.

Attackers were reported to be holding tourists and other guests hostage in two five-star hotels, the Taj Intercontinental and Trident (formerly Oberoi), confronting the waterfront across the Arabian Sea close to the Mumbai’s crucial landmark, the Gateway of India.

Mumbai, Nov. 27: A little-known militant group going by the name of "Deccan Mujahideen" today claimed responsibility for the coordinated terror strikes in Mumbai on Wednesday night.

The previously unknown or little known group sent an e-mail to news organisations claiming responsibility.

Indian journalist Ameet Sha told a private TV channel there was no confirmation but the pattern suggested involvement of Laskar-e-Toiba.

She said terrorist attacks of such a magnitude and the participation of such a large number of gunmen raised questions on the security situation in India.

The identity and nature of the attack has left security agencies baffled.

Mumbai, Nov. 27 : Over a hundred people have been killed in a series of well-coordinated terrorist attacks in Mumbai late on Wednesday night.

Television and print media reports said that the planned and synchronised terror strikes had left at least 110 people injured, some of who were in serious condition in the city''s various hospitals. The places attacked included the Trident Hotel, the Taj Hotel, Wadi Bunder, Cama hospital, GT Hospital, Victoria Terminus station, Bootleggers pub, Girgaum and Metro cinema.
