Seventh edition of Asian film festival was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Thursday evening. 80 films from 20 asian countries as well as from Palestine and Egypt will be screened during 8-day festival. The festival began with the screening of Chinese film "Tuya's marriage" at the Y B Chavan centre.
During inauguration function, Deshmukh appreciated the emerging content-driven cinema which has blurred the divide between commercial and art film.
Mumbai, Oct. 16 : Around 55,000 taxis and 150,000 auto-rickshaws remained off Mumbai roads on Thursday to protest against a Maharashtra Government move to phase out vehicles and auto-rickshaws that were 25 years or more old.
"The strike has received complete support across the city and approximately 55,000 taxis and 1.5 lakh rickshaws stayed off the roads today," said Sharad Rao, the leader of Mumbai Autorickshaw-Taximen''s Union.
