BSE SensexMumbai/ New Delhi, Oct 13 : The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex extended its gains to seven percent on Monday afternoon, boosted by the Finance Minister P. Chidambaram saying that the government was working on more measures to improve liquidity.

The rise, which is set to end a five-day losing streak, was underpinned by gains elsewhere in Asia after policymakers and regulators around the world took a slew of measures to shore up the battered financial system.

Mallya, Goyal meet over possible alliance

Kingfisher AirlinesMumbai, Oct 13 : Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways on Monday broached a possible alliance to overcome their problems, largely generated by mounting fuel bills in wake of the global financial crisis.

Kingfisher chief Vijay Mallya walked into the corporate head office of Jet at S M Centre in Andheri to discuss the issues of common interest with Naresh Goyal, as both the airlines are losing an estimated up to Rs 20 crore a day.

When contacted, a Jet spokesperson said: “Yes, Mallya and Goyal have met today.”

Amitabh Bachchan''s condition stable

Amitabh Bachchan''s condition stableMumbai/Varanasi, Oct 12 : Amitabh Bachchan, who was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital after he was complained of severe abdominal pain, is in a stable condition today.

Bachchan has undergone blood investigation and CT scan of the abdomen, and the reports are expected to be received this afternoon.

In a statement, Abhishek had said doctors have diagnosed the condition and he was suffering from an intestinal obstruction.

BMC declined MMRDA request

The MMRDA has written a letter to BMC requesting it to take charge of 12 roads out of 18 roads. 

These roads are main Link Road, SV Road, Sion-Dharavi Link Road, Saki Vihar Road, Mahakali Caves Road, Marol-Maroshi Road, Sahar Airport Road, Dhaku Road (near Seepz), Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, extension of Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, N S Phadke Marg and Andheri-Kurla Road.

Sensex crashes 1,088 pts

Bombay Stock ExchangeMumbai, Oct 10: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) benchmark Sensex on Friday tumbled by nearly 10 per cent to 10,239.76 in opening trade.

The 30-share index, which had nearly lost 1,730 points in the past five straight sessions, plunged by 1,088.60 points, or 9.8 percent, little away from hitting the lower level circuit of 10 per cent, fixed by authorities.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) index Nifty moved down by 314.70 points, or 9 per cent to 3,198.95 with all the heavy-weight stocks trading in negative zone.

Infosys Technologies fell by Rs 54.35 at Rs 1,200 despite better quarterly earnings.
