Nepal Army chief describe recruitment issue as ''internal matter''

Rookmangud KatawalKathmandu, Feb 13 : Nepal Chief of Army Staff General Rookmangud Katawal on Friday said that the ongoing dispute over army recruitment is an "internal matter" of Nepal Army and that the army itself is capable of resolving it.

In response to questions from the members of the National Interest Protection Committee of the Constituent Assembly (CA) about the ongoing row between the Ministry of Defense and Nepal, the army chief said that he can''t speak on the "internal matter" of the army in the meeting called to discuss the future make-up of the Nepal Army.

US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher, who arrived in Kathmandu Wednesday on a two-day visit, said he would hold talks on a range of issues with Nepalese leaders.

"We will be talking about how the US can contribute to Nepal's development and how we can perhaps continue to assist in the countries political process further," Boucher told reporters.

After Culling, Nepal Is Free Of Bird Flu Nearly a month after its first bird flu case was noticed in a southeastern border region, Nepal’s Agriculture Ministry announced, on Wednesday, that the country is free of bird flu.

On January 16, the health ministry declared that chickens near Kakadbhitta, 400 km south of the capital Katmandu, were found positive for the H5N1 virus, the first confirmed case in the country.

His remark comes at a time when the 18 Constituent Assembly parties including the Nepali Congress are demanding to immediately convene the legislative session of the Assembly to settle the contentious issues of new ordinances.
