Kathmandu, Feb 9 : Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala has said that China and India were developing identical foreign policies on Nepal.
Talking to mediapersons here on Sunday Koirala said, "The two countries are developing similar views on Nepal. Both were concerned that political instability in Nepal might spill into their territories.
"Nepal would benefit if they developed similar policies," he added.
Kathmandu, Feb 9 : The International Press Freedom and Freedom of Expression Mission said that press freedom in Nepal continues to face serious threats.
During a press conference here on Sunday, Thomas Hughes, a member of the Mission said, "The ongoing attacks, threats, and harassment of media personnel and organisations are having chilling effects on press freedom."
Media is being forced into self-censorship, seriously jeopardising the peace process currently underway in the country, Hughes added.
Kathmandu - Violence erupted in several paces in southern Nepal Sunday as a crippling general strike paralyzed normal life across the region.
The two-day general strike called by Tharu Welfare Council, a group representing ethnic Tharu community in southern Nepal, has affected nearly two dozen districts.
They are protesting the government decision to issue a bill on reservation in government jobs, including the security forces, which makes provisions for seats for Madhesi group from southern Nepal.
Darjeeling, Feb 7 : The 24-hour shutdown called by the Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha (GJMM) on Saturday affected normal life in the Darjeeling hills'' Terai and Doars regions.
They are demanding the reopening of 13 closed tea gardens. Another demand is to get permission to organise political activities in the Doars region of Jalpaiguri district. The Morcha also asked that the alleged atrocities on adhivasis in Lalgarh by police and the ruling Left Front Government to be stopped.
