Nine killed in tractor accident in south-west Nepal

Nepal FlagKathmandu - At least nine people were killed and nearly two dozen others injured in a tractor accident in south-western Nepal, police said Monday.

The accident happened in Kapilvastu district, about 200 kilometres south-west of the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, early Monday morning.

The tractor, which was tugging a trailer carrying passengers, lost control, overturned and crushed the victims, police said.

Nine people died instantly while 23 others injured in the accident were rushed to hospital, many in serious condition, police said.

UN mission's term extended in Nepal

UN mission's term extended in NepalKathmandu, Jan 24: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has decided to extend the term of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) by six more months.

According to Nepalnews, the UNSC meeting in New York held on Friday, agreed unanimously to extend the mandate of the UNMIN and endorsed its plans for further, gradual drawdown of the operation.

The UNMIN''s tenure has been extended for third time.

It was slated to expire on January 23. Now it has been extended till July 23.

Nepal Government keen to resolve disputes with India

Nepal Government keen to resolve disputes with IndiaKathmandu, Jan 24 : Nepal Foreign Affairs Minister Upendra Yadav has said the government is very serious about resolving the outstanding border disputes existing both between India and Nepal.

Nepalnews quoted him as saying that the government has taken diplomatic initiatives to solve the border issues.

He also claimed that apart from the Susta and the Kalapani areas there are no major border issues between the two countries.

India provides 104 million dollars to Nepal as assistance

Nepal FlagNew Delhi, Jan 23 : India has provided 104 million dollars as grant assistance to Nepal for upgradation of education and road infrastructure in three districts in the country.

The Embassy of India has already signed four separate Memorandum of Understanding (MOU's) with concerned district development committees and other beneficiary organisations .

The grant assistance is provided for construction of two new school buildings in Rupendehi and Lamjung districts and two roads in Rupendehi districts.

Maoist Central Committee, Secretariat extended

Maoist Central Committee, Secretariat extendedKathmandu, Jan 22: The Central Committee (CC) meeting of the Unified CPN (Maoist) concluded here on Wednesday extending its Central Secretariat.

The meeting that concluded at the Academy Hall in Kamaladi reappointed Dinanath Sharma the party spokesperson and inducted him in the Secretariat. The formerly 15-member secretariat now will now have 16 leaders.

Similarly, the meeting inducted Krishna Bhujel as into the Central Committee. A total of 138 members have been included so far in the 175-member Central Committee.
