Nepal’s new alliance continues negotiating

Kathmandu, Aug 18: The government’s Common Minimum Programme (CMP) has still not been finalised, as the new alliance of Nepal’s three major parties in the Constituent Assembly (CA) including the CPN-Maoist, the UML and the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) have not yet reached a consensus on the issue of sharing ministerial portfolios.

The leaders of the alliance had previously announced to publicise the Common Minimum Programme at this morning. However, the programme was put off after the three parties could not hold talks this morning.

With the new deadlock looming on, the three parties intensified internal discussions. A meeting of the Maoist central committee is underway here.

Prachanda meets police chiefs, Indian leaders

Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal DahalKathmandu, Aug 18: Newly elected Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias ''Prachanda'' met several police chiefs and delegation of Indian leaders this morning.

Inspector General of Nepal Police Om Bikram Rana met Prachanda at his residence. Rana, whose tenure is ending next month, is learnt to have told him about the blast which took place near Vice President Pramananda Jha''s residence on Sunday. At least one security personnel was injured.

Prachanda to be sworn-in as Nepal Prime Minister today

Pushpa Kamal Dahal a.k.a. PrachandaKathmandu, Aug 18: Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal a. k. a. Prachanda will be sworn-in as the first Prime Minister of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal here on Monday.

Nepal President Ram Baran Yadav will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Prachanda in a specially called swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan at Sheetal Niwas this afternoon. The ceremony will be attended by heads of all security forces, diplomats and top bureaucrats.

Alliance begins work on portfolio division in NepalKathmandu, Aug 16 : The three major parties in the ruling alliance including the CPN (Maoist), the CPN (UML) and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) are meeting today to decide division of portfolio in the new government lead by Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias ''Prachanda'' in Nepal.

A three-member team has been entrusted to finalise the ministerial portfolios for each party and the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of the new government.

Former rebel chief Prachanda elected Nepal's prime minister

prachandaKathmandu- Nepal's constituent assembly Friday voted the former rebel chief Pushpa Kamal Dhahal, alias Prachanda as the country's new prime minister.

The vote ended nearly four months of political deadlock, paving the way for the formation of a new government led by the Maoists.

Lawmakers from 22 of the 25 parties represented in the assembly voted overwhelmingly in favour of Maoist chairman Prachanda by signing their names in his support.

The vote gave Prachanda a two-thirds majority of the 596 members in the assembly. Official figures were expected later.

According to Kantipur, the legislative Constituent Assembly meeting was convened today at the CA hall at New Baneshwor in Kathmandu.
