Indian president meets Spanish king at start of historic visitMadrid  - Indian President Pratibha Patil was Tuesday welcomed by Spain's King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia after arriving Monday for the first official visit by an Indian head of state to Spain.

The four-day visit was expected to focus on stepping up trade relations, investments, and on the fight against terrorism, diplomats said.

The Spanish royal couple welcomed Patil and her husband Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat in front of El Pardo palace.

Patil, who was received by Spain''s Minister for Science and Innovation, Cristina Garmendia, said she was delighted to be visiting both Spain and Poland, countries with whom India has close relations.

GP2 series also to make spending cutsBarcelona - Just like Formula One, the GP2 racing series will also have to make cuts in budgets and personnel this season due to the ongoing global financial crisis, GP2 boss Bruno Michel confirmed to German Press Agency dpa.

The GP2 series, which replaced Formula 3000 in 2005, is in its fifth year with 26 drivers taking part in this season's opening race in Barcelona on May 9.

"We had to win tonight, in order to prevent them (Barcelona) from escaping," said Real goal scorer Marcelo.
