London atheist bus advertising campaign spreads to Spain

Spain MapBarcelona - Atheist groups in Barcelona will follow the example of a bus advertising campaign under way in London, placing ads denying the existence of God on two buses running in Spain's second-largest city, local transport authorities said Monday.

The ads reading "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life" will be seen in Barcelona from January 12 onwards.

For believers, faith in God was not an obstacle to enjoying life, but "a solid foundation to live life with an attitude of solidarity, peace and a sense of transcendence," the Barcelona archbishop's office commented.

African immigrants pose nude for calendar in Spain

Madrid - Twelve African immigrants living in precarious conditions in Spain have posed nude for a calendar the sales of which will help them survive for a while, the daily El Pais reported Monday.

The men from Mali, Togo, Senegal and Mauritania appear in discreet pictures taken by Valencia photographer Adolfo Lopez in the calendar unofficially sponsored by an immigrant support organization.

Lopez said he tried to take elegant pictures to reflect the dignity of migrants.

"Without clothes, we are all equal," said 32-year Mady Fofana from Mali, one of the models.

Zapatero has agreed with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to seek international pressure for an immediate ceasefire, according to government sources.

Madrid airport "returning to normal" after delays

Barajas AirportMadrid - Madrid's Barajas airport was Monday gradually returning to normal after delays and cancellations of flights affected thousands of passengers, the airport operator AENA said Monday.

Spain's main airline Iberia, however, was still struggling to deal with hundreds of stranded passengers.

The problems at the airport are largely due to an unofficial work to rule stoppage by Iberia pilots seeking pay hikes and better working conditions.

Many of the Barajas air controllers also called in sick on Friday, but AENA denied on Monday that they had wanted to protest eventual pay cuts.
