NATO supplies to Afghanistan via Tajikistan –Uzbekistan route: Harnitchek

NATODushanbe, Feb 21 : The United States would be sending supplies to its troops stationed in Afghanistan through a new route via Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, a top US military leader has informed.

Rear Admiral Mark Harnitchek said Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to allow transit of non-lethal US supplies through their territory.

"Tajikistan has given its agreement to the use of its rail and automobile routes for the transit of non-lethal supplies to Afghanistan," The Dawn quoted Harnitchek, as saying.

Tajikistan, Uzbekistan approve NATO supply transit

NATO, AfghanistanDushanbe, Feb. 20 : Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have approved the transportation of non-military NATO supplies for Afghanistan via their territory, a US military commander said on Tajik state television.

"Tajikistan has allowed (NATO) to use its railways and roads to transit non-military goods to Afghanistan," said Rear Admiral Mark Harnitchek of the US Transportation Command.

Washington is looking for alternative supply routes for NATO troops stationed in Afghanistan after militants in Pakistan stepped up their attacks on supply fleets.

Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement signed between India and Tajikistan

India, TajikistanNew Delhi, Nov 20 : A Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement was signed between India and Tajikistan on Thursday.

The agreement was signed between the countries, by Central Board of Direct Taxes Chairman Narendra Bahadur Singh, and by Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Tajikistan Norinov Jamshed Nurmahmadovich.

The agreement will cover in the case of India, income tax including any surcharge thereon and in the case of Tajikistan, the taxes on income of legal persons and taxes on income of individuals.

UN: Dramatic drops in Central Asia's fisheries sector

Rome, Dushanbe, Tajikistan - Fisheries production in the Central Asian and Caucasus republics has "plummeted dramatically" in the years following the collapse of the Soviet Union, a UN food agency said Monday.

The crisis is topping the agenda when nine member nations of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) began meeting in Tajikistan on Monday

The Rome-based FAO estimates that between 1989 and 2006 annual inland fisheries and aquaculture production in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan fell from between 60 to 72 per cent.

Tajikistan's production dropped 94 per cent, and Kyrgyzstan's 98 per cent, during the same period.
