Dubai - The volume of air traffic through the United Arab Emirates (UAE), one of the Middle East's key transport hubs, will continue to grow in 2009, although the rate of growth is expected to slow down, a civil aviation official said on Thursday.
Saif Mohamed al-Suwaidi, the Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), said that the number of flights in 2008 had increased by around 10.3 per cent compared to 2007, reaching 489,000 flights.

Beirut, 15th Dec. 2008 -- The Emirates Initiative for Support and Construction of Lebanon has commenced installation of equipment at the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed hospital in Lebanon.
The hospital is being built under instructions of UAE President H. H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
''Construction and fitting of the hospital, located at Arqoub area, are progressed as schedule .......... specialised medical and technical teams have already started commissioning of equipment and fittings,'' said Abdullah Al Gafli, Deputy Director of the Initiative.
ECB expressed hope to the beginning of the Test tour, following a security report in the next 48 hours. Hugh Morris, the ECB's managing director disclosed this in a press conference on Saturday.
Morris told, "The only reason why we decided to suspend the tour and return home was to assess the safety situation in India in a comfortable environment." He further added, "The ECB was waiting for a security report of the situation in India within the next 24 to 48 hours and a decision would be taken on Monday."
