London, Sept. 12 : Uncontrolled immigration could lead to increased violence in the streets of Britain, a former Archbishop of Canterbury has warned.

Lord William Carey, who was archbishop between 1991 and 2002, said there was "deep distress" among members of the British public about the large numbers of people moving from other countries to Britain.

He claimed this could turn to anger and even violence if the problems are not addressed, and added that the "unprecedented" scale of people arriving from different faiths and cultures could change what it means to be British.

According to a report in New Scientist, Katherine Leighty, a behavioural ecologist at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, led the study.

Catholic priests accuse UK’s Channel 4 of having a pro-Muslim bias

London, Sept. 12: Britain’s Channel 4 has been accused of being biased towards Islam and not showing enough respect to Christianity.

The Telegraph reports that several Roman Catholic priests have claimed that the channel has been unfair in its treatment of different faiths.

They claimed that the channel recently showed a whole season of broadly positive programmes on Islam while a "Da Vinci Code-style" documentary on Christianity cast doubt on the validity of the Pope.

It also accused the web site of Channel 4 website as treating the history and beliefs of Islam more reverently than it does Christianity.

Ancient genetic imprint from African settlers can still be found in Indian tribes

London, September 12 : A new research has revealed that the first humans to arrive on the Indian subcontinent from Africa about 65,000 years ago left a genetic imprint that can still be found in the tribes of India.

According to a report in New Scientist, anthropologists have long argued over the genetic makeup of India’s population, because of its complex history of migrations and movement.

The first humans to people the sub-continent came from Africa, following the so-called southern route, along the tropical coast of the Indian Ocean.

Gordon Brown to press Pak to allow US troops to hunt Taliban, al Qaeda militants

British Prime Minister Gordon BrownLondon, Sep 12: British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said that he would press Pakistan to allow US and NATO troops in Afghanistan to take a new approach in the hunt for Taliban and al Qaeda-linked militants.

Addressing a news conference, Brown said he would talk to President Asif Ali Zardari to draw up a revised strategy to halt the flow of militants across the border.

US President George W Bush and Brown also discussed the strategy on Afghanistan in a video conference call.

Traffic through Channel tunnel suspended

London  - Train services through the Channel Tunnel linking Britain and France were suspended Thursday following an alarm, the BBC reported.
