Visakhapatnam, Apr 13 : Naval commanders will meet in the port city of Visakhapatnam today to review the coastal security situation.
The commanders are likely to talk about the special security measures laid down by the government.
The meeting in Visakhapatnam, which is the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy, holds a vital importance as the government has handed over the complete responsibility of the maritime security apparatus to the Navy.
Visakhapatnam, Mar 30 : Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Sureesh Mehta, has said that surveillance of cargo vessels has been stepped to check arms trafficking.
Visakhapatnam, Nov 22 : The National Shipping Board (NSB), an apex advisory body to Ministry of Shipping has sought a more proactive patrolling by the Indian Navy along the piracy ridden Gulf of Aden.
"We have complimented the Indian Navy on their performance in repulsing the attacks on one Indian ship and one Saudi Arabian ship and their action recently in sinking one of the mother ships of the pirates and with this the Indian Navy has actually became very proactive in the area," said, Captain P. V. K. Mohan, NSB Chairman, Visakhapatnam.
Visakhapatnam, Sept. 16 : Fishermen in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, particularly along Vishakhapatnam, have been warned not to venture out to sea in the wake of a depression over northwest Bay of Bengal.
Meteorological warnings said that the depression is moving northwest wards, and as of 11.30 a. m. lay centred about 130 kms southeast of Chandbali.
Officials said the system is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction and cross Orissa coast near Chandbali by this evening.
