Pak-American female Qaeda suspect now in US custody

Washington, Aug 5: A Pakistani female terror-suspect said to be having links with top Al Qaeda functionaries and who had gone missing around five years ago from Karachi along with her three sons, has reportedly been detained in Afghanistan and transferred to New York. She was caught while loitering outside a Governor’s compound under suspicious circumstances.

The female identified as Aafia Siddiqui and who is known to be an American-trained Pakistani neuroscientist, was on Monday charged with trying to kill American soldiers and FBI agents in a police station in Afghanistan last month, the Justice Department said.

She reportedly studied at Brandeis University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Washington, Aug. 4 : An MIT-trained Pakistani neuroscientist, accused of belonging to an al-Qaeda cell based in Boston, is alive and in American custody in Afghanistan, five years after she was reported missing.

“It has been confirmed by the FBI that Aafia Siddiqi is alive,” The News quoted Elaine Whitfield Sharp, a lawyer for Siddiqi’s family, as saying.

Sharp said she spoke to an FBI official on Thursday, who told her that Siddiqi is injured but alive, and that she is in Afghanistan.”

Abbas calls for dialogue with Hamas

Re-establishing a dialogue with Hamas was the only way to restore Palestinian unity, Abbas told reporters after talks with Jordan's King Abdullah II.

"We have no choice but to work together to bridge the gap between us and Hamas, which is also urged to accept what is logical, rational and legal."

Pak Taliban deny US television report on Ayman al-Zawahiri

Islamabad, Aug 3 : Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Taliban has denied a US television Al-Qaeda’s deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahirireport that al-Qaeda’s deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahiri may have been wounded or killed in a missile strike this week.

The Pakistani military said that it had no information on the report by US, which said it had obtained an intercepted letter from a Taliban commander urgently requesting a doctor to treat Zawahiri.

“This is totally baseless. The claim is rubbish, there is no truth in this,” Maulvi Omar, a spokesman for Tehreek-e-Taliban (Taliban Movement), told reporters.
