Regular drinkers more prone to binge drinking

regular drinkingRecent study revealed that regular drinking can lead to binge drinking. People who drink regularly take more than two drinks to come in festive mood.

Lead researcher, Catherine Paradis, a Universite de Montreal PhD candidate, said: "Regular drinking builds up tolerance, therefore daily drinkers will need more than their usual drink or two to make a difference with everyday life and gain that festive feeling."

The research team from the Universite de Montreal and the University of Western Ontario analyzed data collected from 11,000 respondents - 5,743 women and 4,723 men regarding their alcohol consumption in 12 months.

Study also showed that women drink less than men. Researchers found that people often take three, four or five drinks to celebrate.

Five drinks are classified as binge drinking by the researchers.

Andree Demers of Universite de Montreal, co-author said: "What we found is that when people drink more often, they are more likely to drink more, take more drinks, and go to binge drinking."

Researchers added that drinking frequency and consumption per occasion depends on the cultural and biological aspects also.
